THE ALBERT ROAD LANDMARK SCULPTURE

Award winning Albert Road has been granted £90,000 worth of funding from Awards for All, Arts Council of England and Portsmouth City Council. In addition, Albert Road Traders - a not for profit association - have been fundraising continuously and tirelessly through community events to commission a glass and steel LANDMARK PUBLIC ART SCULPTURE as part of a regeneration programme. The sculpture will be made from recycled glass and illuminated by LED lighting. Local Artist Vanessa Cutler and Dr. Cate Watkinson from Newcastle have designed the above sculpture to stand at the junction of Albert Road and Victoria Road South.

Albert Road is noted for its strong community spirit and supports a demographic variable ethnicity, and as such it is noted for its cosmopolitan atmosphere.

From the onset of the commission the local community including two schools in Albert Road including tourist have been involved in the creative process of this work [they appealed for something unique and different].

After a challenging 5 years raising funds to achieve our goal we are now ready to build. So when you drop Albert Road, Southsea you can come along to see the reality of what together with your help we have achieved.

ALBERT ROAD - LOVE IT, LIVE IT, SHOP IT.
